Homebrew Fermenting Bins

Fermenting BinThere are a few different styles of fermenting bins on the market today, some better than others. Think about whether you want an airlock to be fitted into it, whether a tap needs fitting into it and how strong the handle is.

Also the bins like the one pictured are easy to clean, whereas the necked barrel types can be a little more tricky. I personally use the one pictured for beer and the necked barrel types with an airlock for wine. You can of course syphon from a necked type to a bucket with a tap after fermentation. Plenty of choices, it's all down to personal preference in the end.

Notice the red grommet fitted into the lid pictured. This handy gizmo isn't always fitted as standard but you can pick them up on Amazon very cheaply. See ad lower left. N.B. If you are adapting a vessel to use an airlock you will need to drill a 15mm hole to use these grommets. Alternatively you can buy the spare lid with the grommet fitted.
